Transoral Outlet Reduction (TORe)

If you have regained weight after a previous bariatric surgery, then a transoral outlet reduction (TORe) might be the right fit for you. Weight gain after a bariatric surgery is not uncommon and it has been reported that on average, patients can regain 20-30% of lost weight 10 years after a gastric bypass. TORe is a safe and effective, incisionless solution to revising the previous procedure and helping you to lose the regained weight. Through TORe, you can lose an average of 8-11% of your total body weight depending on your commitment to changing your lifestyle after the procedure.

The procedure is performed as an outpatient procedure that typically takes 15-20 minutes and most patients are able to go home the same day and return to work in 2-3 days following the procedure. For a better visualization of how this procedure is performed, please view the video below:

Frequently Asked Questions

How does TORe help you lose weight?

If you have received a previous gastric bypass procedure, food in your system bypasses the stomach through a smaller gastric pouch with an outlet that connects directly to the small intestine. Overtime, the outlet size can stretch, allowing for food to empty out of the gastric pouch quicker. The TORe procedure reduces the size of this outlet and will slow down the rate at which food exits the stomach. This will allow you to retain the feeling of fullness for longer, so your meals will satisfy your hunger for longer periods of time. Additionally, if it is found that the gastric pouch has stretched significantly, it may be appropriate to reduce the size of the pouch as well so that smaller meals can satisfy your hunger for longer as well.

How much does the procedure cost?

Generally, you can expect the fees for the procedure to vary from $3,000 – $8,000. However, the total cost for the procedure and follow-ups are subject to variability between patients and are may change without advance notice. How much weight can I lose?

On average, patients lost about 8.1-11% of their total body weight 6 months after receiving the TORe procedure. Some studies have shown that patients on average lost 8.8% of total body weight after 5 years. However, it is important to note that results will vary between each person. Committing to changing your habits and lifestyle will be extremely important to maximizing your results.

How is the TORe procedure performed?

TORe is a non-invasive, incisionless procedure performed using a suturing device attached to a camera that is inserted through your mouth while you are asleep. After examining the area, the connection between the small stomach pouch and your intestines (the outlet) is reduced in size using the suturing device. In addition, the stomach pouch may also be reduced in size if needed.

When can I return to work after the procedure?

Patients for TORe usually return to work within 2-3 days after the procedure.
